The importance of a good night’s sleep can’t be overstated. We’re all trying to get our fix of solutions from pillow spray to audio books. So often, we stay up late exhausting ourselves in order to get a better night’s sleep — then wake up early feeling tired and dreary. Or we toss and turn in bed, replaying the events of the day, our brains cranked up until midnight while our bodies lay there exhausted.

People have been turning to CBD oil for a long, long time. The Cannabis plant has been cultivated and used for its medicinal and industrial benefits dating back to ancient times. With its use for inducing sleep described in a 1200 A.D. Chinese medical text.
Today, people are still using CBD, or cannabidiol (a compound found in marijuana and hemp that doesn’t get you high) to help with getting to sleep.
A recent case series conducted by a psychiatric clinic investigated CBD in Anxiety and Sleep. The report aimed to determine whether CBD helps improve sleep and/or anxiety in a clinical population.
The report documented the anxiety and sleep quality of 103 adult patients over several months. With each patient giving sleep and anxiety scores, at the beginning and after CBD treatment the results.
Within the first month 79.2% of patient’s anxiety scores had decreased and remained decreased during the study duration. Sleep scores improved within the first month in 66.7% of patients but fluctuated over time. In this chart review, CBD was well tolerated in all but 3 patients who declared minor effects such as fatigue.
According to the World Health Organisation naturally occurring CBD is safe and well tolerated in humans (and animals) and is not associated with any negative public health effects. Therefore, incorporating CBD into your night-time routine is harmless but could be potentially beneficial.
Although these results are promising more controlled clinical studies are needed.
